The River City Coin Club holds its first meeting of 2018.

On Thursday, 11 January 2018, Greg Mencotti brought the first meeting of the River City Coin Club for 2018 to order. He introduced me as our first president, Mark Gusack of Mark Coins and from there everyone introduced themselves and their collecting interests. Much start up business was then attended to.

The initial attendance was very encouraging given the weather and darkness made it difficult to find our wonderful meeting place; The Holy Spirit Orthodox Church located at 1 Wood Haven Dr, Huntington, WV 25701. This was arranged by Greg and provides a well lit room with plenty of tables and chairs not to mention, a full-sized kitchen.

Email me gusackm@comcast.net for a set of directions.

Doors open at 6:30 PM with the meeting starting promptly at 7 on the second Thursday of each month and last about two hours.

The River City Coin Club's mission is to bring together likeminded collectors of our fair city and other area communities to meet under warm and welcoming circumstances, to share their abiding interest in the hobby of numismatics, and to enjoy each other's company.  To that end, we are dedicated to establishing monthly meetings where members can tell and teach, as well as listen and learn about the many aspects of this ancient and venerated hobby.

So far, we’ve established a monthly raffle, an auction, and a coin research game that awards a prize to the member who best answers one or more questions posed. Several dealers have donated coins for sale to augment our $12.00 per year membership dues. Dues run from January thru December and pro-rated by the months left in the year.

Come to our next meeting and bring a friend on Thursday, March 8, 2018 and see for yourself. Oh, by the way, we serve refreshments prior to our meetings.

If you like to a have program or give one at a meeting feel free to make arrangements with me. All suggestions are welcome.

Mark

Doors open at 6:30 for refreshments,  fellowship and a 50/50 Drawing.

 NOTES:

1} Howard Rogers has agreed to conduct the 50/50 drawings. The drawings are important for two reasons. 1-The winner gets half the pot. 2-The other half is used to pay for the refreshment we enjoy prior to the meeting. Either way members benefit.

2} The doors are opened at 6:30 to allow members time to have refreshments and for fellowship. This may prove to be best part of the evening. Please be sure join us and possibly make a new friend.

3} Printed on very bottom of the next month's auction sheet are 3 questions. (The answers can be found in the Red Book so sneaking a peek is not frowned upon.) At the following meeting the questions will be asked. The members who answer all 3 questions correctly will write their name on a scrap of paper which will be collected and and a winner will be drawn from the hat. A nice coin prize will be awarded.

3} Mystery Coin: Beginning with the April meeting members will be asked to sign in. Beside their name write a date (between 1892 & 1947) of the mystery coin. The one closest to the actual date gets the coin. In case of a tie a duel will be arranged in the parking lot.

4} Also beginning in April a nice coin door prize will be awarded to one lucky member who's name will be drawn from a hat.

5} Cecil Starcher has agreed to manage the auctions. Members are requested to paricipate by putting their extra coins up for bid. Each member can place up to 5 coins per auction. Coins are to be placed in the safe keeping of auctioneer Greg Mencotti, one month in advance.
